College Football Playoff Rankings: 1. Alabama 2. Oregon 3. Florida State 4. Mississippi State
By Ty Duffy
Our latest, pointless update based on incomplete data from the College Football Playoff Committee has arrived. There is no change in the Top 7 from last week.
1. Alabama
2. Oregon
3. Florida State
4. Mississippi State
5. TCU
6. Ohio State
7. Baylor
8. UCLA
9. Georgia
10. Michigan State
The obvious point for contention, at this stage, is whether Mississippi State holds onto that No. 4 place after championship week. Baylor should pass TCU on head to head after playing Kansas State the final week. Does the committee look at the best wins? Ohio State and Baylor should have two ranked higher than Mississippi State’s 8-4 best. Or, do they look at the least damning loss? Mississippi State lost narrowly on the road at Alabama.
As for Florida State…conventional wisdom would have them at No. 1. Committee wisdom has the Seminoles at No. 3. If they win out, they will surely be in. Really doubtful the committee will take a tire iron to the undefeated champion of a power five conference. If they lose, they will surely be out.
UCLA and Georgia look best poised to sneak in with two losses if they win out and chaos ensues.
