Cam Newton Suffered Two Lower Back Fractures After His Truck Flipped in a Car Accident [UPDATE]
Cam Newton was injured in a car accident today, according to the Charlotte Observer. After the truck that he was driving flipped, he was loaded onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
UPDATE #2: Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back, according to Panthers spokesperson, Charlie Dayton. Dayton spoke to the press outside the hospital just now, and provided little other information about the details of the crash. He also provided no indication of what this would mean, and whether any surgery would be required.
This is similar to the injury that kept Tony Romo out of one game (and through which he has been playing with pain after that) earlier this year. It is highly unlikely that Cam Newton will be playing football for at least one week in light of his injuries.
UPDATE: These preliminary reports are more encouraging than the initial photographs:
The accident occurred within view of Bank of America Stadium:
These photographs and videos of the wreck were shared by Observer writer Jonathan Jones.
This is a scary situation. We are wishing for the best for Newton and everyone else involved in the collision.
