J.T. Barrett, the backup Ohio State QB who was brilliant all season until he fractured his ankle against Michigan, was involved in a domestic disturbance early Tuesday morning in Columbus.

While no arrests were made, police responded to a call from Barrett’s girlfriend, who claimed he pushed her and choked her. From the police report, via ABC-6:

"In the report, Barrett says a woman identified as his girlfriend — Alexandria Barrett-Clark — refused to leave his apartment after he asked her to do so. Barrett says she “ran at him and pushed him.” Barrett says Barrett-Clark hit him. In the report, he say he pushed her awy in self-defense, which caused her to fall to a bed. Barrett says he again asked her to leave. Agan, he says, she refused. Barrett-Clark says she told Barrett that she would leave in the morning. She told police that Barrett confronted her in his bedroom and “choked her on the bed.” She said Barrett used his forearm to apply pressue to her neck before taking her phone away from her."

Neither had visible injuries according to police, no arrests were made, and no charges were filed. Barrett’s backup, Cardale Jones, led the team to a Big 10 Championship with a victory over Wisconsin, and will start their playoff game against Alabama.

Barrett, only a freshman, is expected to compete with Jones – and possibly the 2013 starter, Braxton Miller, if he doesn’t transfer – for the starting job in 2015. [ABC6 via Thunder Treats]
