Vivek Ranadivé, the Sacramento Kings owner who fired coach Mike Malone after the Kings best start since 2009, is pretty optimistic about the immediate future of his team. Ranadivé famously suggested earlier this year that the Kings try a 4-on-5 defensive strategy with one player hanging on the offensive end because it previously worked when he coached his 12-year old daughter’s basketball team. Now, with Ty Corbin at the helm, Ranadivé sees the Kings making the playoffs.

Via the Sacramento Bee:

"“The NBA has increasingly become like the high-tech business,” said Ranadive. “Just because you invent the iPhone doesn’t mean you can rest on your laurels, because someone is building a better phone. Just because you win 50 games doesn’t mean the status quo is OK, or that you don’t try to get Ray Allen. Good enough just isn’t. You have to get better. So, we felt it was time for us to pivot, to (play) defense and offense. And we think we can make the playoffs.” “Absolutely, with DeMarcus (Cousins) coming back,” he said, “we have a chance to make the playoffs.”"

Classic tech guy attitude. The Kings started with a different business model, but when they ran into trouble (DeMarcus Cousins’ injury) they decided to pivot. So don’t be surprised when Boogie returns to the Kings later this week and Sacramento starts to play well again. It’s all Ty Corbin.
