Manchester City shook off the rust in the second half today vs. Crystal Palace and ended up strolling to a 3-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium. The win is significant since City will be level on points with Chelsea atop the EPL table until the Blues play on Monday. Thanks to the three-goal margin of victory, City’s goal differential is now only one worse than Chelsea’s (+23/+22).

Even more impressive, City won the match with James Milner playing a modified “false nine” role since every other option for Manuel Pellegrini to use at forward is injured or inexperienced.

Kolo Toure put an exclamation point on the game, finishing off this nice team sequence, blasting off the inside the near post on a pass from Milner. So long as Kun Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic are injured, City will need goals from wherever it can get them. For Toure it was his fifth goal in the last eight games.

David Silva scored twice for City, putting in his most-productive day since coming back from a long spell on the sidelines due to injury.
