Joe Philbin Will Return as Dolphins Coach, Owner Stephen Ross Says
By Jason McIntyre
Joe Philbin, the embattled Miami Dolphins coach, will return to lead the team next year, team owner Stephen Ross declared in the locker room moments ago. It’s possible that Ross was swept up in the excitement of Miami’s wild 37-35 win over the Vikings, a game in which the Dolphins won on a blocked punt-for-safety in the final minute.
All signs recently pointed to Philbin being jettisoned as coach – he managed to survive last year after the hazing incident – and Miami missed the playoffs this year, too. The team seems to be at a crossroads at QB – are they going to give Ryan Tannehill franchise money? – but one could argue that if not for a dozen significant injuries on defense, this team could have stolen a wild card berth.
