Adonis Stevenson is one of boxing’s most powerful punchers. His ability to harness that power made him the WBC’s world light heavyweight champion four times over heading into Friday’s bout with Dmitry Sukhotsky. Would Stevenson maintain his title?

Yes.

Stevenson scored this fifth-round knockout, the 21st KO of his career, after dropping Sukhotsky several times before.

Stevenson wasted no time showing who would dictate the action:

But Sukhotsky got back up.

And Stevenson got right back to dominating.

Even absent the knockdowns, Stevenson left no doubt why he’s the champion. He was both far more active than Sukhotsky (272 punches thrown to 136 for the challenger), and more accurate (29%-17% in punches landed). Sukhotsky was game and refused to give in when things didn’t go his way, but ultimately this was about Stevenson asserting his will, and reminding everyone who watched why he’s the light heavyweight champ.
