Help Pick Out My Christmas NFL Jersey

I got the e-mail from Ryan Bonini this morning that I finished top 2 in a USA Today fantasy league, and the prize is a jersey from the NFL Shop. Admission: I do not own a NFL jersey. I have never owned a NFL jersey. When you combine the cost with what I prefer and think looks better, it is not something I have had any desire to personally spend money on. I am normally a hooded sweatshirt or t-shirt person when it comes to team sports gear. (The exception? I have two USMNT jerseys from the 1998 and 2006 World Cups (combined 0 wins) plus a Blackburn Rovers, but those have collars so I make that distinction).

However, when something is going to come for free, I can make an exception. After all, I can wear it to work whenever I want.

Well, I’ve spent the morning and there are too many options out there. So I am turning it over to the people who are still stuck at work before a holiday. I am limited to $150 or less, so the Joe Flacco Elite Jersey is out. There is no Joe Delaney Chiefs jersey, or it would have been an easy choice.

So here are the top ten choices I have narrowed it down to for personal or ironic reasons.

Odell Beckham, Jr. #13 Jersey. Odell Beckham is the reason I am getting a jersey. My two best receivers at one point were Percy Harvin and Eric Decker, and after the Harvin trade . . . yeah J-E-T-S. I was loaded at running back and had Gronk, but Beckham’s surge was the difference. I wasn’t alone.

So in a bit of circuitious logic, I could take my prize and re-invest in Beckham.

Eric Berry #29 Jersey. Berry is out for the rest of the year after being diagnosed with lymphoma and fighting a much larger battle. I am Chiefs fan. As a show of support I would wear a Berry jersey.

J.J. Watt #99 Jersey. I mean, he’s awesome.

Christian Okoye #35 Jersey With no Delaney or even a Dino Hackett jersey available, Okoye is the choice from my youth.

Phil Simms #11 Jersey Simms will never go away. Might as well join the club.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif #76 Jersey Name of a Congressional Bill or a backup lineman with the Chiefs? The rookie sixth round pick from McGill probably doesn’t have too many jerseys out there. This is the ultimate hipster pick. “Oh, you don’t remember Duvernay-Tardif? Must not be a real fan.”

Jay Cutler #6 Jersey Hey, he’s going to have a big year one of these times.  As the number one Jay Cutler apologist, I should probably go all in. And since the jersey has just been marked down $20, I might be able to get a matching Jeff George one.

Tim Tebow #11 Jets Jersey. The Tim Tebow Jets jersey is currently selling for $19.99 on the NFL shop. to put this in perspective, a Chiefs Matt Cassel jersey still goes for $39.99. If this is the pick, I’ll see if I can add in a Peyton Hillis Chiefs jersey for $39.99.
