Alex Smith will miss the Chiefs Week 17 game Sunday against the Chargers due to a lacerated spleen suffered last week vs. the Steelers. Smith played through the injury and practiced earlier this week, but experienced nausea.

Chase Daniel will start in place of Smith on Sunday. His only other NFL start came vs. the Chargers in Week 17 last season.

The Chargers clinch a playoff berth in the AFC with a win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead. The Chiefs would need to beat the Chargers and get outside help to qualify.
