Wayne Rooney and Falcao Paired Up For A Quality Manchester United Goal
By Mike Cardillo
Manchester United, maybe just maybe, appears on the verge of coming together — at least in the attacking third of the field. Friday vs. Newcastle United, Wayne Rooney & Co. hooked up for this nice team goal on the counterattack to go ahead. Rooney — who dropped into the midfield to accommodate a starting XI that included Robin van Persie and Falcao — started the movement near the halfway line. He found Juan Mata who played it to Falcao. The Colombian then played an excellent ball across goal to set Rooney up for the tap-in.
United remain a work in progress under Louis van Gaal, but when you can figure out a way to play Rooney, Mata, van Persie and Falcao all at once that’s a pretty good start. Long term and against the better teams in the league you’re probably going to want a little more size or grit in the midfield — this isn’t a video game after all — but this is offensive-minded lineup certainly appears to be working inside the friendly confines of Old Trafford.
Rooney added another to make it 2-0 at the half. He basically owns the Magpies for his career:
