Chip Kelly will oversee player personnel and general manager Howie Roseman has been “elevated” to Executive Vice President of Football operations, the Philadelphia Eagles announced. Kelly will be in charge of the search for a new GM, and Roseman will “continue directing contract negotiations, salary cap management, and NFL strategic matters, while overseeing the team’s medical staff, equipment staff and more,” according to Adam Schefter. (This doesn’t sound that much like an “elevation” for Roseman, but maybe he gets a pay bump?)

It’s been a weird and tumultuous few days for the Eagles organization as the New Year’s Eve firing of Kelly’s front office ally Tom Gamble led to speculation as to whether the head coach was so upset by the developments that he’d follow Gamble out the door. It will be interesting to see whether, and for how long, this compromise lays all of the turmoil to rest.
