The players may not be getting paid extra to participate in the college football playoff championship game, but the parents will receive a benefit on a “pilot basis,” the CFP announced today.

A maximum of two parents or guardians for each player can receive up to $1,250 in reimbursement for travel, lodging, and meal expenses associated with attending the CFP championship game next Monday. Some quick math puts that at a benefit that could be in the range of $425,000 paid out if every player maxed out with two parents/guardians for the maximum amount.

The NCAA announced the waiver for the CFP to provide these benefits while also announcing that the NCAA would provide travel expenses for athletes’ families attending the men’s and women’s Final Four. Those benefits will provide up to $3,000 for family members attending the semifinals game, and $4,000 for those who attend both the semifinals and finals games.
