Only in the SEC, folks.

July, 2014:

"Jonathan Taylor, the sophomore defensive lineman who was arrested on Tuesday on an aggravated assault/family violence charge, was dismissed from the team Wednesday afternoon, just hours after being released from jail."

According to the police report, the 6-foot-4, 340-pound Taylor “choked” and “struck with a closed fist” his 5-foot-11, 170-pound girlfriend.

Fast-forward six months and …

"247sports.com’s Shane Youngblood broke the news on Tuesday night at Taylor had committed to Alabama and was expected to enroll in classes as early as Wednesday. Later on Tuesday night, Scout.com’s John Garcia Jr. tweeted “Just got off the phone with Jonathan Taylor, who reports not having selected a school. No plans to enroll this week.”"

Taylor was one of the best players in the country as a senior, and rated as the 5th best player in the state of Georgia in 2012.

Alabama permitted 281 yards rushing to Ohio State last week in a playoff loss, including this back-breaking 85-yard game-winner by Ezekiel Elliott. Alabama returns sophomore nose tackle A’Shawn Robinson, but his backup, Brandon Ivory, graduates.

Perhaps Taylor could room with another defensive lineman who ran afoul of the law?

[UPDATE: Alabama has officially announced Taylor as one of the January enrollees]
