An Indiana High School Basketball turned violent on Saturday night. A game between Griffith and Hammond high schools was called with 5:32 remaining in the first quarter on Saturday night after a brawl broke in the wake of a dirty foul. Griffith’s Anthony Murphy was headed to the basket when he was shoved from behind by Hammond’s Tim Echoles, and sent headfirst into the wall behind the basket. Players quickly started pushing and throwing punches. (FULL VIDEO BELOW)

Tempers had originally flared between the schools during the junior varsity game. The tension carried over to trash talk between the varsity teams during warm-ups according to the NWI Times.

Amazingly, this could have been much worse. Especially for the kid who was fouled and hit the wall very awkwardly. Immense credit goes to the adults – coaches, referees and police – who were able to break up this fight as both kids and adults came onto the court from the stands as players threw punches. Officials cleared the floor and immediately called the game. Suspensions should be handed out today.
