Josh McCown Might Sign With the Bills?

Josh McCown and the Bills are trying to “work out a deal today,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Mike Rodak. However, Rodak adds that the quarterback has other visits planned, so it’s not really a slam dunk that this signing would be imminent. If it does go down, it would be a puzzling acquisition for Buffalo. Would this even be a step up from the mediocre-at-best play the Bills got from Kyle Orton this past season?

Though McCown played well subbing for Jay Cutler in Chicago two years ago, he was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league this past season in Tampa. He threw 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, and ranked 31st in yards per attempt, 32nd in passer rating, and 28th in Total QBR. There aren’t many quarterbacks that had a better tandem of weapons at their disposal than Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, and McCown turns 36 in July.

If Rex Ryan is aware that failure to find an adequate quarterback was his undoing with the Jets, signing Josh McCown in anything other than a backup role would seem to be a weird mistake.
