Wrigley Field Renovations Way Behind: Bleachers and Bathrooms Won't Be Finished Until June

The Wrigley Field renovations, which have been perpetually delayed for reasons ranging from litigious rooftop neighbors to outmoded city infrastructure, are facing even further setbacks after one of the coldest Februaries in Chicago history has halted construction for several days. As documented by the Chicago Tribune, Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney said that while left-and-centerfield bleachers should still be ready for May 11, the right field bleachers won’t be ready until “at least” early June. Remodeled bathrooms in left field also won’t be done until June.

To help make up for lost time, the Cubs are about to ask the city to permit 24/7 construction. Some neighbors are actually okay with that if it means the inconvenience of perpetual building will be done sooner while others don’t want it messing with their sleep schedules. There is one silver lining, though: The Cubs’ massive new videoboard “remains on track to be ready for opening day.” Priorities, etc. This should all make for an interesting viewer experience the first 2+ months of the season.
