Lionel Messi's Assist on Neymar's Goal vs. Villarreal Is One Of the Best Passes You'll See This Year

Barcelona is playing Villarreal today in the Copa del Rey. The occasion allowed for this aesthetically pleasing sequence by Barça to take a 1-0 lead. Javier Mascherano started it with a long ball from near midfield to Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan changed direction and found Lionel Messi on the opposite side of the field. Messi, as is his wont, pulled off a completely nonchalant chip over the Villarreal defense to tee up Neymar.

That pass by Messi is insanely difficult and he makes it look like he’s done it a thousand times and is no big deal. Odds are, yes, he’s probably done it countless times in training but that’s besides the point.

As Arsène Wenger once noted about Messi, “he is a PlayStation player.” It’s hard to argue with that assessment when Messi continues to pull off stuff like this with such ease.
