Nolan McCarthy’s first varsity at-bat came in a tie game in the bottom of the 7th inning on Tuesday. Understandably nervous, McCarthy took a big cut and lost his bat, sending it flying backwards where it got stuck in the fence. A coach had to climb the cage to get the bat down. Once again in possession of his bat, McCarthy then singled in the game-winning run on the very next pitch. [Oregonian]
