Frank Gore, Wanting to Play with a Great Quarterback, and Headline-Created Shade

Frank Gore wanted to be with a great quarterback, so he left San Francisco and went to Indianapolis. It’s all right there in nfl.com’s title: “Frank Gore: ‘I wanted to be with a great quarterback.” Considered yourself served, Colin Kaepernick.

Except, well, this story that appears on the league-run website is a little more nuanced than that headline. And we know what happens when such a title is pushed into social media sphere, where people glance at headlines, don’t read details, and then discussion becomes like the whisper game. It’s come across my timeline frequently today talking about Gore and making references to Colin Kaepernick.

So here’s the quote:

"“When I knew I wasn’t going back to the 49ers, my first option was I wanted to be with a great quarterback,” Gore said. “I feel that you have to have a great quarterback to have a chance. Luck is a young quarterback and he does everything. He can throw. He can run. He’s physical. He’s a leader.” "

The piece is actually in response to why he chose Indianapolis over Philadelphia. He opted to play with Andrew Luck if the money was similar. This had nothing to do with Colin Kaepernick (It did have to do with the difference between the quarterbacks in Philadelphia and Andrew Luck).
