If you haven’t been following the story, Sharper was charged with aggravated rape (involving the use of drugging) in four different jurisdictions-New Orleans, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and in Arizona. The allegations included several troubling details–one referred to Sharper allegedly saying “she’s on the potion, she’s ready” in regard to one incident. Sharper was facing a mandatory life sentence if convicted of aggravated rape in New Orleans, so I doubt this plea agreement involves him avoiding jail time. The details of the agreement will reportedly be filed on Monday.

We’ll see if Sharper proponent Peter King has anything to say in light of this plea deal. More pertinent, though, is the cooperation required of Sharper as part of this plea deal, and where else it leads. There were assertions in the past that other NFL players were involved, though the investigation had not moved on to a broader level. Now that Sharper has reached an agreement, that may change.

[UPDATE: Darren Sharper will face between 38 months and eight years of prison time as a result of a plea bargain on charges of attempted sexual assault. The cynic would say that he is looking at 38 months for some pretty serious crimes. How much cooperation is he providing? Get your popcorn.]
