Mike Brey's Revealed His Mother Passed Away Hours Before Notre Dame's Game vs. Butler

Notre Dame outlasted Butler in overtime Saturday night to reach the Sweet Sixteen. After the game Irish coach Mike Brey began his press conference telling the media that earlier in the day his mother, Betty, died at the age of 84 due to a heart attack. Brey said the win was, “kind of a tribute to her,” and “I think she was definitely with us down the stretch.”

According to a report by ESPN’s Dana O’Neil, Brey kept the information to himself. The players didn’t find out about the news until after the game.
