Grayson Allen probably had the most impressive “off-the-bench” performance in a title game for a national champ, relative to what he had done all year. Allen’s 16 points comes in 2nd to only Luke Hancock in 2012 for points in the final game for a national champ, off the bench. Of course, Hancock, a senior, was a true sixth man/quasi-starter who played a lot of minutes all year, and averaged over 12 points a game, and playing more than half the game regularly all year long.

Allen was averaging just over 4 points a game this year, as a freshman.

Then, we can talk about just how vital his 16 points were. Duke was in serious trouble down 9, when Allen scored 8 straight points.

*note: Spike Albrecht for Michigan in 2012 and Will Bynum for Georgia Tech in 2004 both scored 17 off the bench in finals, in a loss. Albrecht probably would have held the crown along with Allen for bonkers performance, and does in a loss.
