West Virginia has become infamous for couch burning. The Morgantown City Council is attempting to put a stop to it. A new city ordinance will ban upholstered furniture from being kept outdoors. The city claims there have been more than 3,000 such fires in the last decade.

"“Over the last 10 years, we’ve had over 3,000 street fires because of the quick ability to bring furniture from porches and put it into the streets and put them on fire,” he said."

Violating the ordinance will be a $500 fine. While we suspect the ordinance won’t eradicate the tradition, it could have a dampening effect. Fire is fun. Trying to navigate a couch through a door frame is anything but fun.

Perhaps, Mountaineer fans will pursue more wholesome pastimes, such as bro-ing out hard and busting some awkward dance moves.
