Oh, Charles, you never cease to amaze us. Whether it’s his opinion of basketball analytics, or, his disdain for Skip Bayless — Barkley is no stranger to controversy…

Tonight, he decided to chime in on the current state of college basketball….

  • “Bad Basketball”
  • “Stay in school”
  • “Not ready for the NBA”
  • “I get paid to watch and I need a raise”
  • “Your family is greedy pigs”

…all phrases used by Charles Barkley tonight, during his halftime rant of the Washington Wizards vs. Indiana Pacers game on TNT.

My personal opinion: I agree with Chuck in the way that I think the ‘quality’ of college basketball stinks — meaning: the players (overall) aren’t good, the basketball IQ (overall) is poor, and the gameplay (overall) is tedious to watch most-of-the-time. Maybe it’s because I watch too much NBA, and take simple basketball fundamentals for granted — I dunno…

However, I still find ‘bad basketball’ entertaining. March Madness was awesome this year, and just because no-one knows what they’re doing — doesn’t mean it’s wrong to consume the product and enjoy it for what it is…

As for the “One and Done” Rule — I hate it…I think it siphons the talent out of college basketball; simultaneously making the product less attractive/aesthetically-pleasing to the common bball fan. Thus, my solution is simple: 2 years minimum in college, OR, 1 professional season abroad (Europe, China, Australia, etc…) required before a player can declare for the NBA.
