Derek Jeter Too Busy Building Media Empire to Miss Baseball

Derek Jeter retired from baseball in 2014. Maybe you heard the news. Perhaps?

Turns out Jeter isn’t wrapped up in the current season, likely because he’s too busy running the Players Tribune website. Heavy is the head that wears the Founding Publisher crown, right? From an interview on satellite radio this week, via ESPN New York:

"“To be honest with you, I don’t miss it at all,” Jeter said on SiriusXM Radio as he called into a show to talk about his Players’ Tribune website."

Welp. That’s it. Back up the truck. Turn off life support. Do no resuscitate. Baseball is dead. Done. Finished.

Sarcasm aside, it’s not that crazy that after 20+ years in the game Jeter wants to decompress and avoid April baseball. Actually the best part of the “Jeter doesn’t miss baseball” quote cycle is this part below.

"“I really can’t give you an answer but, you know, the AL East has always been a tough division; I’m sure it will continue to be tough,” Jeter said. “But I have no clue. I really have not watched.”"

Even in retirement, Jeter manages to continue his Ripken-like streak of never ever giving an opinion one way or the other on any subject. Jeter’s next big enterprise feature for the Player’s Tribune ought to be an explainer on how to answer questions in the most boring, non-controversial way possible. That’s not a joke, either.
