Scott Brooks Could Be Replaced by Billy Donovan? How Does Kevin Durant Feel?

Scott Brooks, this is your life: For the first time since 2009, the Thunder aren’t going to the playoffs. It’s not your fault, because reigning MVP Kevin Durant only played 27 games due to injury, Serge Ibaka missed 18 games and Russell Westbrook sat out 15.

Still, the Thunder have regressed the last three years since going to the NBA Finals in 2012 (again, totally not your fault; did you want to trade James Harden?), and oh yeah, your best player is a free agent 14 months and could leave. So basically, the front office is going to huddle with Durant and Westbrook, ask them what they think about you, and then make a decision about your future based on that.

What’s more likely for Durant: Wanting a new coach and perhaps a new system in his final year? Or sticking with the coach who has one of the best rosters in the NBA, but seems to be an average-at-best game coach?

And how’s this: Less than 12 hours after the season ended … and Billy Donovan’s name has already been floated as a possible replacement for Brooks.

Happy summer, Scott!
