The NFL reviewed the photos from the Greg Hardy trial and reviewed as much information as they could get from that initial bench trial, and handed down its formal suspension today. Hardy, signed by the Dallas Cowboys, has been suspended for the first 10 games of the 2015 season. If Hardy is on the Cowboys roster (and the appeal is unsuccessful) he will collect his base salary, only for the games when he is not suspended, and will have difficulty hitting the performance bonuses.

If you don’t recall, Hardy was out all of last year on the exempt list (so he was paid but did not play), after being originally convicted in a bench trial in North Carolina for domestic violence. He appealed to a jury trial, and the accuser failed to cooperate (and likely reached a civil settlement with Hardy). The conviction was reversed.

Expect appeals. The league has already been unsuccessful in trying to suspend Adrian Peterson beyond last year, and he has now been reinstated.
