San Diego Chargers Trade Up to Draft Melvin Gordon
By Jason McIntyre
Trading up to draft a running back? That’s something bad teams do, like the Cleveland Browns. Why would San Diego do this?
Melvin Gordon is an excellent football player, and was a star at Wisconsin. But we’ve been over this a few times – running backs are interchangeable. They can be had late in the draft. Yes, even a stud like Gordon. I wouldn’t have done it – hell, I didn’t have Melvin Gordon in my 1st round – but the Chargers probably made QB Philip Rivers happy.
The Chargers gave up the 117th pick (4th round) and a 5th round pick to jump up two spots to 15th to take a running back. The 49ers definitely won that trade.
Let that one sink in.
