Tennessee Titans Draft Marcus Mariota 2nd Overall
By Jason McIntyre
The Tennessee Titans couldn’t find a trade partner, so they drafted Marcus Mariota, the Heisman Trophy-winning QB from Oregon. (Not yet, at least!)
But what about the trade? What about Cleveland and Philadelphia and the Bears and Jets who all were rumored to be beating down the Titans’ door for Mariota? It never happened. (Not yet, at least!)
Will Mariota succeed in Tennessee? That seems unlikely. Ken Whisenhunt has traditionally preferred a classic, drop-back QB; that’s not Mariota. Can it be Mariota? It could, but will he be successful?
His weapons: Hugh Douglas, Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright could be the worst receiving trio in the AFC. His running backs are suspect at best – Shonn Greene and Bishop Sankey (who showed little as a rookie). It’s gonna be a long year in Tennessee.
