John Wall of the Wizards has “five non-displaced fractures in his wrist and hand” and his playing status for the remainder of the postseason is in jeopardy, the team just announced. The nation’s capital is enjoying a great sports start to the month of May – the Capitals are on the cusp of a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Nationals have won seven of 10, and the Wizards swept the Raptors and stole homecourt advantage from the Hawks in Game 1.

This is a buzzkill.

Here’s how Wall suffered the injury in Game 1. Keep in mind he stayed in the game and finished with 18 points and 13 assists.

What a brutal postseason for NBA point guards. Chris Paul pulled a hamstring and has missed two games (so far). Mike Conley got his eye shut and missed 2+ games. Houston’s Patrick Beverley tore ligaments in his wrist prior to the postseason and won’t play. Can we toss Rajon Rondo’s “back” injury into this discussion?

And besides point guards, Kevin Love’s done, the Blazers didn’t have Wes Matthews, and did I miss anyone?

The Wizards got a solid game from Ramon Sessions Tuesday (21 points, four assists, two turnovers) against Atlanta in Game 2, but the Wizards still lost by 16. Wall had averaged 12.5 assists per game in five postseason games. It’s a stretch to think the Wizards can win this series against the Hawks without their best player.
