Edinson Volquez Pitched Thursday with a Giant, Gross Blister on His Thumb

Edinson Volquez left Thursday’s start against Cleveland after three innings, including an inning which he walked four batters. That’s not good. Volquez has a perfectly good reason why he left — a blister broke open on his thumb. As you can see in the image above it’s gross.

Per Fox Sports Volquez said it looked worse than it felt but admitted it “burned” by the end of the inning.

Allow this to serve as example No. 7,192 that the human body will try to do whatever it can to reject throwing a ball overhand repeatedly.
