This weekend’s Women’s Coppa Italia final in Italy has been cancelled, after the head of the Italian Amateur Football Association, Felice Belloli, termed female players “a bunch of lesbians” during a meeting. He denies it. Everyone else confirms it.

Players from Brescia and Tavagnacco had threatened to strike unless action was taken against Belloli before the match. The players also want women’s soccer to be under the Italian FA, rather than the Amateur Association. FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio, the man who referred to African players “eating bananas,” must be far more progressive.

Sepp Blatter, we presume, will have some enlightened thoughts on the matter.
