Jeff Van Gundy has been outspoken in favor of his former Knicks and Rockets assistant Tom Thibodeau, and continued to be on this afternoon’s ESPN conference call. As SI’s Ben Golliver relays, Van Gundy said that every organization needs a VP of Common Sense (a Bill Simmons phrase) and said the Bulls’ statement reveals who Gar Forman and Jerry Reinsdorf are:

Van Gundy isn’t wrong here. The Bulls easily could’ve offered a perfunctory statement and been on their merry way instead of dragging their successful coach’s name through the mud. On the bright side, unless any new NBA jobs happen to open up, Thibs will be living large on the Bulls’ money for at least next season, and, if he chooses, the one after that.
