Giancarlo Stanton Hit Another Home Run into Orbit

Giancarlo Stanton crushed another tape measure home run. This time it came against the Rockies at Coors Field on Friday night. Per ESPN’s Stats it traveled 483 feet, the longest in the Majors this season. MLB’s new statcast technology tells us it left the bat travelling 111.2 miles per hour. Context for such a stat is something readily discussed, but it seems pretty darn fast.

Stanton continues to mash 400-feet homers and is up to 18 total on the season, tying him with Nelson Cruz and Bryce Harper.

For whatever it’s worth, the distance from Earth to the Moon is 238,900 miles … so Stanton has a long way to go before launching an actual moonshot.
