Official Matildas Website Was Chippy After Losing To USWNT

The USWNT beat Australia 3-1. The loss left the official Australia women’s national team website feeling a bit chippy. The site published four things they “learnt” from the opening match. Here was No. 1.
Which team won 3-1, again?
To be fair, the U.S. team did not play well. Australia had a better run in the first half. The tactical play was rather direct. Little happened that was not instigated by Megan Rapinoe and Sydney Leroux down the left wing. The U.S. did not hit stride until the Matildas tired in the second half.
That said, soccer matches last 90 minutes, even in Aussie-land. Australia was “out of gas” for most of the second half. What distinguishes a good team is having great players who can turn a flat performance into a 3-1 win.
Whatever happens, we have got: Megan Rapinoe, and they have not.
