Leave it to baseball to continually find ways to surprise. This time in the form of home plate umpire Andy Fletcher going out to the mound to yell at Cubs pitcher Jon Lester during Thursday’s game with the Dodgers at Wrigley Field. Chicago catcher David Ross restrained the ump and later Joe Maddon got in the way before it could escalate.

Lester didn’t know what it was about, per the Chicago Tribune:

"“I didn’t say anything directed at him,” Lester said. “I don’t know why (Fletcher) was so upset. I had my head down when I was yelling. He went AWOL. I don’t know what was going on. It has nothing to do with umpire’s strike zone.”"

Being a Major League umpire must do crazy things to both your psyche and ego. That’s the only explanation I can think of because it just doesn’t make a lot of sense.
