Sepp Blatter Again Quoted Saying He Didn't Resign
By Mike Cardillo
So about that Sepp Blatter resignation. The FIFA President shockingly said he would resign his post amid the on-going corruption scandal that enveloped the organization in May.
Not so fast.
Per the BBC, Blatter recently told a party that he didn’t exactly resign. “I did not resign. I put myself and my office in the hands of the Fifa congress,” Blatter said as reported by a Swiss Newspaper.
If that’s the case, well, there’s a decent chance Blatter could figure out a way to weasel is way to another term in charge of FIFA. For the punchline he is in America — specifically John Oliver’s living room — and parts of Western Europe, Blatter maintains widespread support around the globe. Amazingly if and when FIFA convenes its special congress, Blatter could end up winning the vote again.
Perhaps the only way to stop Blatter from running again is pressure from FIFA’s main sponsors, but don’t hold your breath on that.
FIFA gone FIFA.
