The Jim Harbaugh vs. Colin Cowherd interview went awry. Michigan’s head coach followed up on Twitter, accepting 50 percent of the responsibility for the debacle. That’s a fair assessment.

Harbaugh could be more accommodating. He generally isn’t, unless it’s directly beneficial. Given how sensitive the Twitter echo chamber can get, that’s not an unwise strategy.

Cowherd could have planned the interview better. The buy/bye confusion was on him. We have ample evidence of Harbaugh being a very tough interview. He’s given many since taking the job. He just coached in the NFL for four years.

Here is an interview Lindsay Czarniak did with Harbaugh in 2013.

Czarniak did research. She came at him persistently with direct, specific questions. She had followups ready to counter his brief responses. She salvaged it for the viewer. She also got him to reveal something genuine: his love for Michigan, which proved significant later.
