Dwyane Wade opted out of his contract, and there was some momentary concern that he might leave Miami. That ended today with news that he has re-signed with the Heat for 1-year, $20 million.

You’ve probably seen reference to how much Wade has given up compared to say, Carmelo Anthony, to help the Heat win rings.

Of course, that was his option. You generally don’t pay for past performance in sports and thrive. Nevertheless, the Heat found the compromise: a lot of money for one year, but no long-term commitment for Wade, who will turn 34 during the next season. This just bought the Heat one more year with the current core to try to rebound in the East.
