Charles West is a 3-star running back recruit out of Coppell, Texas. (Rivals, 247, ESPN) On Sunday, West was playing basketball outside Coppell Middle School East when a man walked up and shot him in the arm. Police are uncertain if West was the intended target, but it doesn’t sound like anyone else was hit. Police are also investigating a possible video of the incident.

In possibly unrelated news, West is awaiting trial for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an incident earlier this year. Via The Dallas Morning News:

"West was arrested in February, accused of raping a woman at knifepoint. On Jan. 28, police responded to a suspicious-person call made by West. When they arrived, a woman standing outside a home accompanied by two men told police that West held a knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her in the garage, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. The woman told police she had been hired by West as an escort for a “foot fetish service,” the affidavit states. West admitted arranging the service, but denied assaulting the woman, police records state."

BYU is waiting for the legal process to play out before making a decision about his status with the program.
