Jason Pierre-Paul was not the NFL’s only fireworks-related casualty over Fourth of July. Multiple sources are reporting Buccaneers’ CB C.J. Wilson suffered a hand injury described as “severe” or “serious” in a fireworks mishap.

The Buccaneers released the following statement.

"“We are aware that C.J. was involved in an accident that occurred over the July 4th holiday. It is our understanding that the injury occurred to one of his hands and our primary concern at this moment is for his long-term health. We have been in contact with C.J. and are continuing to monitor the situation.”"

Wilson’s injury could end up being a really tough break. He appeared in only two games last season on special teams. Because the injury is non-football related, the team does not have to pay him and could outright release him to make room on the 90-man roster.

UPDATE: Per the Lincoln Times-News, Wilson lost two fingers on one hand, which definitely qualifies as a “serious” and “severe” injury.
