Fans Dress Up Like Umps, Call Balls and Strikes During Mets-Giants Game

I’ve heard of baseball teams holding Christmas in July promotions, but never Halloween in July so let’s assume this pair of fans at Wednesday’s Giants-Mets game took it up on their own volition to dress up like umpires and call balls in strikes seated in the front row behind home plate. Figure they must be Joe West fans or something. The idea is amusing enough — unless you happened to be seated behind them. Wearing a bulky face mask for nine innings without getting paid does seem like a lot of work. I’d rather watch the game with a beer and some garlic fries, but that’s me.
