Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth, who collected the fifth win of his career on Saturday after winning the John Deere Classic in a playoff against Tom Gillis, is now one win shy of Tiger Woods’ record for most Tour wins before the age of 22. Spieth has also won the first two majors of the year, The Masters and the U.S. Open.

If Spieth wins The Open, he’d become only the third golfer in the modern era to win three majors in one year and would join elite company like Tiger Woods, who won the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship in 2000, and Ben Hogan, who won the Masters, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship in 1953. The only player to win four majors in a calendar year is Bobby Jones, who won The Open Championship, U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, and The Amateur Championship in 1930.

Spieth could also take the number one world ranking from Rory McIlroy with a win this week.

Rickie Fowler

Still think Rickie Fowler is overrated? Fowler won his second tournament of the year on Sunday after he edged out Matt Kuchar at the Scottish Open. The win moved him from ninth in the world golf rankings to fifth – see pic above.

Fowler attributed his win at the Scottish Open to Phil Mickelson.

"“I had breakfast with Phil this morning and he made sure I was well aware what he had done two years ago in winning the Scottish Open and then The Open, so I told him I would try and take care of the first leg of it, so I got that done.” “Phil has always been a role model to me and a huge help, and someone I love spending time with on and off the golf course. “I have learned a lot from Phil as he is a great professional.” “I am very excited to win the Scottish Open and hopefully it will move me forward and to having a great week at St Andrews, and you never know that down the road there could be some good tussles with me, Rory and Jordan.”"

Could this be the week that Fowler collects his first major tournament win? It wouldn’t be a surprise if it happened, but he’s got a tough job ahead of him to beat Spieth.

Golf wins again.
