Roger Goodell was a guest of honor at a fundraising function in the Pittsburgh area today, and was asked about the Tom Brady appeal.

"“We are focused on it,” Goodell said. “We are obviously being very thorough and want to make sure we consider all aspects of his appeal. We will make a decision as quickly as possible.”"

As quickly as possible?

Reminder: the initial ruling on Brady’s suspension of 4 games came out on May 11th, over 10 weeks ago. The Wells report was released five days earlier. The entirety of the Wells’ investigation and report release, from beginning of the story to publication, took 104 days. That seemed to drag on as well, but involved the direct interviewing of multiple witnesses, collection and reviewing of electronic data, and preparation of a lengthy report. This involves Goodell affirming or altering the decision after arguments at an appeal hearing last month.

Oh, and actual football training camps start in just over a week. July has been as slow as possible by NFL standards–the arrests and off-the-field news seems to be down compared to past years–so if Goodell didn’t finish his thorough review now, when is he? I mean, fantasy drafts are just around the corner and I bet he hasn’t even budgeted that into his time allotment yet.
