Yoenis Cespedes Traded to the Mets
By Mike Cardillo

Yoenis Cespedes is going to the Mets … we think. All reports by baseball insiders on Twitter have the Mets trading for the Tigers outfielder, but given what happened with Carlos Gomez earlier this week it’s probably best to hold your breath until the deal is 100.0000000000 percent official.

If the Mets get Cespedes as reported it’s a great addition on the field and signal the team’s ownership isn’t totally adverse to spending money. Cespedes hits for extra bases and is outstanding in left field. He should slot into left field (or center) right away at Citi Field.
Consider this, Cespedes’ 18 home runs matches Lucas Duda’s team-high total. His 125 OPS+ is immediately the best in the New York lineup.
Yoenis Céspedes has more home runs this month (8) than all of the Mets' right-handed hitters combined (6)

Mets fans … take a deep breath and smile. You’re three games behind the Nationals and just added an All-Star.
The Tigers end on the deal isn’t clear, but the Tigers are reported to get two minor leaguers, but it’s not Zack Wheeler who was mentioned in the canceled Gomez trade. Bear in mind Cepesdes is a free agent after the season. As explained by the Detroit Free Press earlier this month, his contract makes it difficult for the team has his rights to re-sign him.
After the week the Mets have had, let’s end on this note:
