NFL Locker Rooms are Split Apart over Game of Thrones Spoilers

Preseason is coming. And some NFL players aren’t fully prepared for the devastation about to rain down upon them. Yes, according to Kevin Clark of the Wall Street Journal, there are a fair number of players who profess interest in Game of Thrones, but have not caught up in their busy summers away from the facilities.  And there are other fans of the show who are ready to talk about it in great detail now that they have all joined back together. It’s causing issues.

In Washington, Niles Paul said, “[i]f you don’t know that Jon Snow died, if you don’t know what the White Walkers are, that’s not my problem. It means you aren’t a fan and you don’t watch the show.”

Pittsburgh linebacker Vince Williams, who hasn’t caught up, meanwhile, said “I dare anyone to spoil it.” (hope Vince isn’t reading this, assume this would happen if so.)

This brings up an interesting question. How much of a fan are you if you haven’t caught up? And just how long does the /spoiler alert thing apply.

An internal Big Lead poll reveals that Stephen Douglas is aghast at football players who claim to be fans not being able to carve out time to watch 10 hours of television in the summer. Ty Duffy, meanwhile, hasn’t caught up with the show and now is getting bombarded with spoilers in internal e-mails, where the office conditions are way more cut-throat than a NFL locker room. Jason McIntyre is probably watching Ballers and could not be reached for comment. I, meanwhile, think the spoiler alert thing may apply for a few days to allow those who had a specific conflict and a working DVR to catch up, but it’s up to the person behind to avoid spoilers. I didn’t begin with the show. I binge-watched seasons 1, 2, and 3 in the span of a training camp, before jumping in and being caught up.

One thing the article didn’t address, while talking about those that are caught up and not: whether there are any book readers. I bet you there’s a kicker out there who let’s everyone know that totally didn’t happen in the book.
