The FedExCup Playoffs start Thursday at The Barclays at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey, and the field is packed, minus Tiger Woods who needed to win the Wyndham Championship in order to play in the event. Notably absent are Rory McIlroy (9th in FedExCup points), Sergio Garcia (31st), Francesco Molinari (99th), Retief Goosen (111th). McIlroy is skipping the tournament while still working on healing his ankle.

"Via PGA.com: “I’m going to take a couple of weeks off just to sort of re-assess everything, and I’ll start back in the playoffs at Boston,” McIlroy said Saturday, referring to the Deutsche Bank Championship, Sept. 4-7 at TPC Boston. “Then play through the FedExCup. Then I’ve got to play Frys.com and then I’m playing maybe a couple more after that, Dubai and China.” "

No reason was given for Sergio’s decision to abstain from the tournament. Molinari is staying home with his wife, who is expecting, and Goosen has a family issue to attend to, both won’t be moving forward on the playoffs since only the top 100 are given spots in the Deutsche Bank Championship. Louis Oosthuizen (28th) is also not in the lineup after withdrawing with a back injury.
