Curt Casali Strained His Hamstring Rounding the Bases After a Home Run

Home run trots are tricky. If you round the bases too slowly, you risk angering the opposing team and getting a fastball to the ribs. On the other hand, if you run too quickly, you risk suffering an injury.

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Curt Casali fell victim to the latter scenario last night after going yard against the Minnesota Twins. A misstep around first base left him to hobble around the rest of the way and leave the game with a strained hamstring.

"“It was really weird,” Casali said. “It’s never happened to me. I’ve never seen it. It stinks right now. On top of a loss, it’s not a good day.” “It just started getting tight on me,” he said. “It didn’t feel very good going around the bases. Didn’t want to injure it more. Took as it as slow as I could. I had to get around the bases somehow.”"

Interestingly enough, a pinch runner can be used if a batter is unable to round the bases after a home run since it’s a dead ball. Baseball truly has everything.
