Ronda Rousey Talks Retirement, Thinks Cyborg is Still Using PEDs
Ronda Rousey went on Joe Rogan’s podcast yesterday. She was her usual quotable self, proclaiming herself an antagonist and covering a multitude of subjects. Unfortunately, the topic of her latest rumored relationship was not discussed. She did however, talk about about retirement. Via MMA Junkie:
"“I’m not going to be doing this in my 30s; I don’t want to be fighting in my 30s,” Rousey said. “By 30s, I mean like 31, 32. If you’re actually 30 years old that’s 30, not 30s. Once you add the one, that’s 30s, plural. I’m 28. I don’t know. I look at it exactly like how we were talking about fighting, that’s how I do everything else. I don’t look at these separate disjointed things. I’m not going to go in there and try this thing and try this thing and try that thing and hope something works out.”"
Another thing she talked about was the one person fans actually care about her fighting before she leaves. The good news is that Cyborg is only two years older than Rousey, so she’ll be around. The bad news is that Rousey is already 28. She’ll be 29 in February. She’s got two and a half years to the age where she plans to retire. Also, Rousey seems unlikely to fight her if she still thinks she’s using performance enhancing drugs. Which she kind of does.
"“When you look at these people from before they were using and after, they look entirely different,” Rousey said. “‘Cyborg’ looks in ways exactly the same. If she gets off it will be very easy for her to make weight (because of) what we’ve seen from every other person that’s got off it. I think that – I can’t say with proof or anything, but if you look the exact same as you did when you were using, then what changed?”"
So, we’re at the same impasse. Rousey thinks Cyborg is using and seems unlikely to fight her unless she stops and drops to her weightclass. The big difference now is, we have a timetable for completely missing this fight. Full podcast is below.
UPDATE: Here is Cyborg staring down Rousey’s rival and fellow 135-pound fighter Miesha Tate on the set of a movie.
