As you probably know by now: Comedian/Actor Will Ferrell  documented his recent journey through the Cactus League, a minor league baseball system, where he played 10 different positions for 10 different teams in one day. The title of the documentary is: “Ferrell Takes the Field”, and it premieres Saturday September 12th at 10 PM on HBO.

Last night: the Los Angeles Dodgers visited the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park, and before the game: Ferrell was honored with a commemorative plaque via MLB Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson, who said: “With all due respect to Cal Ripken Jr., tonight’s inductee is an Iron Man of sorts — even though his career only lasted 12 hours.”

I’m sure Ferrell is thrilled with his new plaque, but, the biggest achievement here is that the production and promotion of Ferrell’s film helped raise more than $1 million for the “Stand Up For Cancer” and “Cancer For College” charities — organizations whose missions are to “raise funds to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking translational research that can get new therapies to patients” and award scholarships to cancer survivors, respectively.

Now THAT’S Hall of Fame worthy…
